This work has the ambition to show and analyse some of the critical aspects of the reform of the EU economic governance put in place in the wake of the sovereign debt crisis. The analysis starts from the very reasons which brought to the birth of EMU, from the failure of the international monetary system agreed in Bretton Woods to the Maastricht Treaty.
