Historical overview of the notions tha are part of the current regime. A general duty for the conservation of marine biodiversity on the highs seas. A specific duty for the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity on the high seas through marine protected areas. A specific duty for the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity on the high seas through environmental impact assessment (EIA). A specific duty for the conservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity on the high seas through the transfer of marine technology and the relationship with the duty of benefit-sharing.
