Abstract/Index

Business and human rights in context. Globalization, the "new business", the "new States", and human rights. Corporate social responsibility (CSR): corporate responsibilities as per society’s expectations. International human rights law and its definition of corporate responsibilities. The need for international regulation of the "business and human rights" scene. The existing international law regime regulating business and human rights. The international regulation of business enterprises by means of binding law. The international regulation of business enterprises by means of soft law. Corporate self-regulation and stakeholder initiatives on human rights as newer forms of international law. Future perspectives on the international law regime regulating business and human rights. The movement towards a treaty to regulate the impacts of business enterprises on human rights. The third revised draft of the legally binding instrument to regulate, in international human rights law, the activities of transnational corporations and other business enterprises. Considerations on further possible evolutions for the international law regime regulating "business and human rights".
