Theoretical background and literature review. From CSR to ESG. What constitutes ESG. ESG and company value. The principles of ESG investing. ESG and M&A. Hypotheses. Hypothesis 1: target ESG compliance increases the likelihood of completion of the deal. Hypothesis 2a: target ESG compliance increases the deal premiums the acquirer is willing to pay for the takeover. Hypothesis 2b: target ESG compliance is already incorporated in the share price. Hypothesis 3: target ESG compliance affects the method of payment used in the transaction. Hypothesis 4: target ESG compliance positively affect the returns of the acquiror.
