The academical and political debate on European strategic autonomy, from the past until nowadays. What we mean by "strategic autonomy" and the evolution of this concept. Strategic autonomy meant as responsibility, hedging and emancipation. The transatlantic debate on European strategic autonomy in both defence and energy areas. The strategic nature of energy and its relevance for the EU. The key role of energy in the modern economic system. A new economic system with a new pattern of dependencies. Energy and European Union, the historical link. The current European legal framework on energy. The link between the Russian-Ukrainian War and European strategic autonomy. EU’s involvement in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Member states response, their background with Russia and Union far-reaching plans and strategies.
