At the regional level: the issue of the Strait's control, hegemonic and economic ambitions in the Arab-Persian Gulf. A contested chokepoint, vital to ensure state "security, power and glory". An economic asset requiring cooperation for Gulf countries. The issue of the Strait's use, between deterrence and interdependence. Hormuz as a security guarantee for Iran against great powers. Hormuz as a witness and a hub of globalization. Discussing the balance between realism and liberalism. Weaponization of interdependence and threats of blockade: a tool of hard power above all. Conflicts and national interest: limits of cooperation.
