The Haitian State: how the first black republic was ultimately classified as a “failed State”. Haiti’s history: between success, independence and a gradual deterioration of the State and its institutions. Categorizing and discussing the “failed State” notion: how an abstract and contested approach becomes an academic and political concept. Local community structures and gang expansion: exploring Haitian’s relationship with the State. Haitians and the lack of collective consciousness: the erosion of State-community relations. The emergence of a violent parallel order: Haitian armed gangs.
