Abstract/Index

Political consumerism, boycott and ethical consumption choices. Definition of political consumerism and boycott. Differences between economic, social, and political boycotts. Psychological roots and motivations of boycotts. The role of emotions and morality in consumer choices. The behavioral economics of political consumerism: models, motives and moral dilemmas. Boycotts as social dilemmas: rational choice, moral motivation, and collective action. Beyond rational choice: behavioral models and experimental evidence in political consumerism. Behavioral games and moral preferences: experimental evidence of fairness in consumer decisions. Social preference models: understanding reciprocity, fairness, and cooperation in political consumerism. Political consumerism as a structured, preference-consistent protest. From hashtags to hardships: the boycott of Israeli-linked brands and the moral logic of consumer protest. From outrage to economic action: the 2023 Gaza war and the resurgence of consumer boycotts. Brands under fire: corporate reputations and consumer response in the BDS Boycott of 2023–2024. Social media, moral signaling and the digital spread of political consumerism. From one to many: participation, reciprocity and the psychology of collective action. Between symbolism and impact: what the boycott achieved–and what it still needs to achieve.
