Literature review. The evolution and drivers of corporate sustainability and energy transition: from institutional pressures to strategic advantage. Mergers and acquisitions: definition, classification and primary drivers. Sustainability, investment decisions and M&A activity in the renewable energy sector. Research Context: the Italian energy sector, the regulatory framework and the EU’s role in the transformation. Methodology. The business model of an energy firm. Differences in the value creation process of traditional and sustainable energy firms. CVA’s investment decisions and insights on M&A activity in the energy industry. Research design and sample strategy. Data collection and analysis. Ethical constraints. M&A activity as an accelerator of strategic transformation, and the importance of post-transaction integration.
