Driving the belt and road initiative, the meeting and opposition of the western and eastern worlds. The “first” silk road, not one but numerous commercial axis spanning from China to Europe. The opium wars, roots of China’s diplomatic positioning regarding the Occident. Second half of the 20th century: the rise of China as a superpower. The belt and road initiative : a massive economic and geopolitical investment plan. Overview of the BRI investments across the world from 2013 to 2021. Focus on two BRI economic corridors: China-Pakistan and China-Indochina peninsula. Behind the BRI, a complex Chinese long-term geopolitical strategy. From the US to the China sea via Europe: international reactions to the belt and road initiative. USA, perceiving China as a growing threat, tries to strengthen its influence in the Indo-Pacific region. For India, second giant of the region: the difficulty of defining an effective diplomatic position in a context of accrued bilateral tensions. Russia: moving with China towards a new world geopolitical order. Europe: long passive, the continent slowly awakens.
